With lyrics that speak of escapism from a relationship, many people found themselves looking at this song as if it were an anthem to the car-lovers, who enjoy driving down the open road with the windows down. Soon after doing so, I began to realise just how excellent the songs on their second album, Around The Fur, were, including the likes of ‘Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)’, one of their most popular singles. In fact, one of these lengthy trips actually saw me stop by a music store and stock up on every Deftones album I could get my hands on.
It was also around this time that I found myself discovering just how brilliant the Deftones were, having written them off completely after seeing them live a few years earlier. While I would often find myself listening to music around this time as a secondary means of escape, I also found myself doing such a thing to escape other aspects of my life as well, including my own insecurities and failed relationships. I’ve spoken at length before about my depressed years which saw me frequently driving for hours on end late at night as a means to escape the realities of my home life.
